Unlocking Grid Capacity for Electrified Road Transport

Transport electrification is accelerating globally, driven by corporate commitments, industrial policy and growing demand for cleaner transport. As fleets electrify, however, the electricity system is emerging as one of the defining challenges of the transition. The focus is shifting from whether to electrify transport to how we build electricity systems capable of supporting rapid EV uptake while maintaining affordability, reliability and resilience. The International Council on Clean Transportation has recently published its “Principles on Commercial Fleet Electrification and the Distribution Grid” to help policymakers and industry navigate this shift. Drawing on these principles, this session will bring together senior leaders from fleets, utilities, technology providers and policy to explore how smarter grid planning, demand flexibility, digitalization and stronger cross-sector collaboration can unlock the next phase of electrification.
