The seagrass dance: A Film by Kayla Weisdorf

The Seagrass Dance is a Climate Week NYC screening of artist Kayla Weisdorf’s new 70-minute documentary exploring the extraordinary ecological potential of seagrass—one of the world’s most effective natural carbon sinks and a powerful yet often overlooked nature-based climate solution. Through poetic cinematography and an original score, the film follows the restoration of eelgrass meadows, revealing how ecological care, scientific knowledge, and human participation can work together to restore coastal ecosystems. The screening will be followed by a conversation with artist Kayla Weisdorf and Willis Elkins, Executive Director of Newtown Creek Alliance, exploring ecological restoration, public engagement, and the role of art in inspiring climate action. The event is intended for artists, environmental practitioners, scientists, policymakers, philanthropists, and members of the broader Climate Week community interested in nature-based solutions, ecological restoration, and the role of culture in advancing climate action.
