Decarb Lunch: The Business Case for Commercial Building Optimization

What if some of the biggest opportunities to reduce emissions are already hiding in the buildings you own? Before investing in major capital projects, there can be significant value in understanding how a building is actually using energy and identifying opportunities to improve the performance of existing systems. Optimizing systems today can also help building owners plan for future capital investments and make smarter decisions when equipment reaches the end of its useful life. Chris Kasianchuk of Warrington PCI will start with real-world building projects and case studies, showing how optimizing existing systems and improving building operations can reduce energy use, operating costs, and emissions. Ehsan Haghi of BOMA BC will then draw on his experience working with buildings through the Decarb Accelerator to explore how benchmarking can provide a clearer picture of building energy use and how that insight can uncover operational improvements and energy savings. Together, they’ll explore how efficiency can be a practical pathway to decarbonization, while also creating value for building owners.
