CanCO2Re Webinar: Co-Benefits, Dis-Benefits

About this event

This webinar looks at carbon dioxide removal (CDR) beyond tonnes of CO2, asking whether growing reliance on carbon removal could delay or weaken near-term emission reductions in sectors such as transportation, industry, and oil and gas. The question matters particularly in Canada, where many emissions-intensive sectors are also major sources of air pollution and those burdens fall unevenly across communities.

CanCO2Re researchers Daniel Posen and Feras Abdulla, with air quality expert Marianne Hatzopoulou, examine CDR through systems, societal and air quality lenses: where it strengthens mitigation, where it works against it, and how deployment choices change co-pollutant emissions, population exposures and health outcomes.

The session is part of the CanCO2Re webinar series, a national research initiative connecting researchers across 11 fields of study through the University of Calgary, University of Alberta, University of Toronto, Simon Fraser University and the Pembina Institute.
